This maple Dijon dipping sauce has the perfect balance of sharp and sweet flavors and goes great with sausage bites, chicken, wraps and more.
My ingredient notes:
- I added a little bit of mayo just to get rid of the slightly mealy texture of the Dijon. It's not enough to make the sauce actually taste like mayonnaise.
- I used equal amounts (by volume) of Dijon and maple syrup here for a strong sweetness that keeps the Dijon flavor from becoming overwhelming. And because maple syrup has such a multidimensional flavor profile, the sweetness is nicely complex and the sauce is not just sweet.
- Tarragon and mustard is a classic flavor combination that I've used often before, like in this maple Dijon marinade and this tarragon mustard. The licorice-like flavor of the herb works great with the intense sweet and sharp flavors in this sauce.
