This spicy ranch dressing is ultra creamy from a mix of mayonnaise, sour cream and buttermilk. Cumin, oregano, lime juice, garlic salt and cayenne give it a delicious flavor. And a little bit of tomato sauce adds lots of umami but without actually making it taste like tomato!
Ingredient notes:
- Because the spiciness comes from cayenne (rather than strongly-flavored hot sauce or chipotle peppers), this dressing retains the characteristic, tangy ranch flavor.
- Tomato sauce is not what you usually think of as an ingredient for ranch but it works incredibly well in this recipe. It rounds out the flavors perfectly but the amount is not enough to add actual tomato flavor. (I had the idea to use tomato sauce because I remembered how well it worked in this spicy hamburger sauce!)
- The amount of cayenne pepper listed in the recipe will yield a moderately spicy dressing. Use more cayenne to taste if you would like it spicier.
How to make it:
Step 1. Add all ingredients to a bowl.
Step 2. Whisk together until completely smooth.
How to use it:
This dressing is fantastic on any salad or as a dipping sauce. You can use it for jalapeño poppers, raw vegetables, chicken wings, onion rings, chicken nuggets, grilled cheese and more!
