This tangy, spicy burger sauce tastes fantastic on beef burgers. It has delicious flavor from oregano, garlic, chili powder and hot sauce and enhances the beef flavor without overwhelming it.

Burger sauce in a bowl with a spoon and fresh oregano.

Recipe ingredients and notes:

  • Classic burger sauce (also called hamburger dressing) is made with mayonnaise and ketchup plus spices and/or herbs. What's different about the recipe here is that I used canned tomato sauce instead of ketchup. Tomato sauce works great because it has a pure, tangy tomato flavor and none of the sugariness that ketchup has.
  • You can use either fresh or dried oregano, both taste great in this sauce.
  • Use mild or medium chili powder, depending on how spicy you want the sauce to be. (And check out more delicious recipes that use chili powder!)

You need hot sauce, chili powder, garlic, olive oil, rice vinegar, canned tomato sauce, oregano and mayonnaise for this recipe.

How to make it:

Step 1. Add all ingredients to a bowl.

Step 2. Whisk together until smooth.

How to use the sauce:

Generously spread the sauce onto the top and bottom burger buns, then assemble the beef burger.

How spicy is it?

The spiciness in this sauce comes both from hot sauce and chili powder. Use mild chili powder for a moderately spicy sauce and medium chili powder for a pretty spicy sauce.
