This tasty sweet pickle tartar sauce is made with my homemade cinnamon- and clove-spiced sweet pickles and it is delicious! It’s a little bit sweet, a little bit tangy and has a lot of subtle and complex flavor from the spices in the pickles. It makes the perfect condiment for breaded fried fish.
What is tartar sauce:
Tartar sauce is an intensely flavored tangy and creamy condiment. It’s made from mayonnaise and finely diced pickles plus sometimes additional flavorings.
About this recipe:
Tartar sauce is one of my favorite sauces but I often find store-bought and restaurant versions too harsh and sour. That’s where this sweet pickle recipe comes in. The subtle sweetness in the pickles blunts the sour flavor and makes the sauce much less harsh. In addition to that, the subtle spice flavors in the pickles add a delicious complexity to the sauce.
You only need 2 ingredients for this tartar sauce:
- mayonnaise and
- sweet pickles that are subtly flavored with cinnamon and clove
Here is the recipe for the sweet pickles. The pickles are easy to make and there is no canning involved but they will need to sit for 24 hours in the fridge before you can use them.
How to make it:
Stir the 2 ingredients together in a bowl and you’re done.
How to serve it:
This tartar sauce is spectacular with any breaded fried fish.
How to store it:
Store the tartar sauce in an airtight container in the fridge.
