Bbq sauce ingredients and notes:
Barbecue sauce is typically made with a tomato base (like ketchup), vinegar, honey or sugar and other flavorings. The bbq sauce in this recipe also contains Sriracha sauce for a spicy and delicious chili flavor.
- Sriracha sauce is a very spicy, thick hot sauce that's made with chili peppers, garlic, sugar, vinegar and salt. It adds an intensely spicy, sweet, sour and salty flavor to anything you add it to.
- I recommend dark brown sugar (rather than light brown sugar) for this recipe. Dark brown sugar has more molasses and therefore a more complex flavor that works well in this sauce.
- Note that there is no liquid smoke in this recipe. Therefore, the sauce does not have the smokiness that some store-bought bbq sauces have. Instead this sauce has a complex but very pure, sweet, sour and spicy flavor profile. If you want to make the sauce smoky, you can add a drop or two of liquid smoke.
