This spiced Irish coffee is one of my favorite fall coffee drinks. It’s warm and comforting and invigorating and exciting at the same time.

I’m a huge fan of pumpkin spice. The blend (made with cinnamon, clove, ginger, allspice, nutmeg and mace) is so versatile and delicious that it goes with almost anything, including Irish coffee.

In my version of the classic drink, you whip a bit of pumpkin spice into whipped cream and use it to top the Irish coffee. The spice adds an unmistakable and very comforting fall flavor to the classic coffee and Irish whiskey drink.

The original Irish coffee recipe:

A traditional Irish coffee is made by mixing freshly brewed hot coffee with Irish whiskey, sweetening it with sugar and then topping the drink with whipped cream. The cream basically forms a “lid” that keeps the drink warm and adds a delicious creaminess when you drink the cocktail through it.

How to make it a spiced Irish coffee:

For the recipe here you top the cocktail with pumpkin spice-flavored whipped cream and that infuses each sip with delicious fall flavors.

Ingredients you need:

Pumpkin spice Irish coffee ingredients on a table.
You need hot coffee, pumpkin spice, Irish whiskey, sugar and heavy cream for this recipe.

Ingredient note:

  • pumpkin (pie) spice – make sure you use very finely powdered pumpkin spice for this, otherwise you will end up with tiny pieces of spice in your whipped cream that will drive you nuts!

How to drink Irish coffee:

Make the topping by adding heavy cream, sugar and spice into a mixing bowl and whipping it to stiff peaks.

To serve, divide coffee, sugar and whiskey between two cups, then pipe or spoon the pumpkin spice whipped cream on top.

For a great fall treat to go along with this drink I recommend a slice of this rum raisin cake.

That’s an interesting question, I have not tried to add milk to an Irish Coffee before but I can imagine that it would be quite tasty!

Awesome recipe Nicole! Is it possible to used a whipped cream dispenser in place of the hand whipping?

That’s a good question, Alex! I have a whipped cream dispenser (the brand I have is ChefMaster) and I just looked in the manual to see if it said anything about solids. I didn’t see ground spices specifically mentioned in there, but my manual says to only use “strained liquid ingredients.” So, honestly, I wouldn’t take the chance and put ground spices in there since the particles might plug up something or do other damage. But what you could do is infuse the cream with pumpkin spice ingredients (a cinnamon stick, whole cloves, etc.), then strain them out and use the infused cream in the dispenser.
