Different shallot cuts:
The two most common shallot cuts you will find in recipes are sliced shallots and minced shallots and I included both in this guide. Slices are a great cut for caramelizing shallots, like for this gourmet grilled cheese, for example. Minced shallots are an essential ingredient in many different recipes, from salad dressings to sauces.
How much does a very large shallot bulb yield:
The shallot I used for the measurements below weighed 4 ¼ ounces unpeeled and contained 2 individual cloves within the bulb (shown in the photos below). The measurements in the table are for the whole shallot bulb, i.e. for both cloves combined.
