Smoked hot paprika and ancho chili powder team up in this bold paprika ancho spice rub for a deep, dark and delicious flavor. This dry rub shares many of the ingredients typically used in traditional chili powder seasoning but has a bolder, darker and richer flavor.

What’s in this spice rub?

Paprika ancho spice rub ingredients on a plate.
You need smoked hot paprika, ancho chili powder, ground cumin, dried oregano, salt and garlic powder to make the spice rub.

Ingredient notes:

  • Ancho chili powder is made from dried poblano chili peppers. It has an intense earthy flavor that is great in dry rubs. It also works very well in sauces, like this ancho aioli.

How to make it:

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl until well combined.

This spice rub is great on chicken and we also love it on fried potatoes and potato wedges!

Store the dry spice rub in an airtight container (such as a glass jar) in a cool and dark place, such as the kitchen pantry or cabinet.
