Published: Feb 4, 2021 · Modified: Dec 1, 2022 by Nicole B.

You can make Linzer cookies either with regular cookie cutters of different sizes or with an actual Linzer cookie cutter set.

What is a Linzer cookie cutter set?

A Linzer cookie cutter set usually comes with one cookie cutter and a few center cut-outs with different shapes. You can attach the cut-out of your choice for the cookies you are making.

The different center designs:

A basic Linzer cookie cutter set usually comes with a star, a circle, a heart, a triangle, a flower and a diamond center cut-out.

The different cookie cutter shapes:

The most common shape of a Linzer cookie cutter is round with a fluted edge but that’s not the only shape there is. You can find all kinds of themed Linzer cookie cutter sets shaped like Easter bunnies, butterflies, hearts, Christmas trees and more.

How to make Linzer cookies:

You need two sets of cookies to make Linzer cookies: base cookies that are whole, and top cookies that have the center cut-out.

Make the base cookies:

To make the base cookies, use the cookie cutter without any center cut-out attached.

Make the top cookies:

To make the top cookies, set a center design into the cookie cutter, then turn it to slide its metal edges under the hooks of the cutter.
