How much minced garlic is in a garlic clove depends on the size of the clove. Garlic cloves can vary dramatically in size. Some are very thin and others are very bulky, even if both were taken from the same garlic bulb. Here I measured how many teaspoons of minced garlic you get from large and small garlic cloves.

Individual garlic cloves are so light that it's not possible to distinguish them by weight using a typical kitchen scale. Therefore I only distinguished between "large" and "small" in this test. I included the photos below to show examples of a large and a small peeled garlic clove.

How many teaspoons of minced garlic does one garlic clove yield?
Size of garlic clove: | Yield of minced garlic: |
---|---|
large | about 1 ½ teaspoons |
small | about ¼ teaspoon |
Garlic cloves that are sized in between these two extremes will yield between ¼ teaspoon and 1 ½ teaspoons of minced garlic. On average, one garlic clove will yield just under 1 teaspoon of minced garlic.
