Chicken Wing Dry Rub (no sugar)

This sugar-free chicken wing dry rub makes the perfect seasoning for baked chicken wings. It’s full of great flavor from smoked paprika, garlic and onion powder, thyme, allspice, pepper and cumin. The spice rub also creates a nice texture on the wings!

What’s in the dry rub?

You need garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, smoked hot paprika, allspice, cumin, thyme and salt to make the dry rub.

Dry-rubbed chicken wing preparation in four steps.

Step 1. Toss the wings with oil.

Step 2. Toss the oiled wings with the dry rub.

Step 3. Set the wings on a wire rack on a baking sheet.

Step 4. Bake the wings until juicy and tender.

How to serve the wings:

The baked wings taste great all by themselves but if you want to serve them with a dipping sauce, I recommend ranch dressing.

How spicy is this dry rub?

This spice rub is mildly spicy from the smoked hot paprika.

Chicken Wing Dry Rub (no sugar)

Equipment:

  • measuring spoons
  • mixing bowls
  • paper towels
  • baking sheet
  • aluminum foil
  • wire rack
  • rubber spatula
  • kitchen tongs
  • meat thermometer (recommended)

Ingredients:
  

For the dry rub:

  • 1 ½ teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons smoked hot paprika
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon ground allspice

For the wings:

  • 12 chicken wing sections, (fully thawed if using frozen)
  • 1 tablespoon mild olive oil or vegetable oil

Instructions:
 

For the dry rub:

  • Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.

For the wings:

  • Heat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil, then set a wire rack on it. Set aside.
  • Pat the wing sections dry with paper towels, then add them to a large mixing bowl.
  • Add the oil and toss with a rubber spatula until the wings are evenly coated.
  • Add the dry rub and toss until evenly coated.
  • Set the wings on the wire rack and bake, uncovered, for 20 minutes.
  • Flip the wings over, then continue to bake them until they're golden-brown and have reached an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees F. (~ another 25 minutes).
  • The wings are delicious just by themselves but if you want to serve them with a dipping sauce, I recommend ranch dressing.

This rub is mildly spicy.
