This easy ahi tuna rub adds just the right amount of zing to a delicious, meaty tuna steak. It's made with dry mustard, thyme, rosemary, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and a touch of smoked paprika.

A raw tuna steak with seasonings.

Recipe ingredients and notes:

This seasoning has a nice sharpness from the mustard powder that contrasts well with the rich flavor of ahi tuna steaks. Smoked hot paprika is a background flavor that enhances the savory flavors of the herbs.

Dry mustard, thyme, rosemary, salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder and pepper.

How to apply the rub:

Pat raw tuna steaks dry with paper towels, then rub with the seasoning on both sides.

How to cook the tuna steaks:

You can either grill or pan sear the steaks.

Is ahi tuna the same as yellowfin tuna?

Yes, ahi is an Hawaiian word that refers to two species of tuna: yellowfin tuna and bigeye tuna.

Is this dry rub spicy?

This dry rub has a sharp flavor but it is not actually spicy.

This ahi tuna rub creates a delicious, flavorful crust on ahi (yellowfin) tuna steaks.
Makes a little more than 1 tablespoon, which is enough to season 2 ahi tuna steaks (with each steak weighing about 5 ounces).
